Repurpose A Garbage Can!!

I am amazed I have never thought of this before.  Sometimes an old metal garbage can looks dated, unhygienic or just plain ugly!  Certainly nothing you would want in your home as a self-respecting adult right?  Wrong!  A good cleaning, some spray paint and you have a new side table for your home! Krylon has a lot of great new colours that makes spray painting that much more exciting!

Unannounced Absence!

Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to apologize for my last two week hiatus!  I was traveling for a short summer trip and then came down with the flu directly after!  At least waited until I was back home to attack.  I should be back to posting normally as of today.  Hope you are all enjoying your summer!

Organic Food Baskets And Community Supported Agriculture! - Montreal Quebec Area

I am having a very hard time going green.  I love meat and I don't want to give it up.  I am however disgusted at the state of the meat industry and agriculture in general.  Last night I stumbled upon the most amazing programs here in Quebec.  I found tons of local farms that are proud to not only provide organic fruits, vegetables, meats, pastries and pantry necessities (flours, honey, jam, juice etc.) but they also deliver it!!  Each farm has different drop off locations and boroughs.  For my neighbourhood the drop off spot is closer to my house than the grocery store.  I am beyond excited for Tuesday when my basket that I customized is ready for me to pick up.  I cannot push this idea enough.  I mean it is fresher, healthier, organic, closer and cheaper than any other option... why would you choose any other way?  I am enclosing a list of all the different farms that offer this service in Greater Montreal Quebec.  I am also enclosing the best variety farm I found that offers this service all year round!  Lufa farms.

Repurpose Old Dresser Drawer Into A Dog Bed

I found this awesome idea from the blog Southernrevivals.com  and decided to make this my weekend project! George will love it.  I have a much larger drawer for him so he should have a ton of space.  I hope someone out there will find use of this.  It is a great way reuse a drawer that would normally get thrown out.

Make Your Own Almond Milk!

Goodbye hormone and antibiotic filled milk!  I must admit I have never tried almond milk.  I grew up around a lot of farms where the cows were grazed everyday on a pasture, they procreated on their own and the milk is amazing!  It really is like no other.  Which then makes me wonder why does the milk taste so different everywhere else?  I moved away from home when I was 18 and have never moved back.  I visit quite often and drink as much milk as I can while there.  The first thing that really drove this home (how milk tasted elsewhere) was my boyfriend.  My boyfriend grew up as lactose intolerant.  While we were back home he tried chocolate milk (as I complain about the gross stuff that passes here in Quebec).  Not only did he like it, it did not bother him at all!  Since then I stopped drinking milk in a big glass and now limit it to cooking and coffee.   Not only is this the first time I'm trying almond milk it is the first time making it!  Check out he recipe after the break.

This workout is ridiculous!  It was created for the models when they are on the road or vacation.  Something quick, easy, no tools and a workout that is like no other.  I had no idea how out of shape I was until I did this workout! DIY, All Natural Flea and Tick Control For Dogs And Cats 3 Easy Steps

I just wanted to share my project of the day.  I have two pets 1 dog George and 1 cat Rummy.  WIth Summer in full swing many people are dealing with fleas and ticks waging war with our best little friends.  This morning I woke up and noticed a tiny bug on George's belly... a flea! Neither pet has been scratching and I myself have not received any bites.. yet.  The medication from the vets office makes both pets 'off' and not feeling well.  So I decided to do some research, get hands on and tackle this with my new green living attitude.
I found some wonderful blogs online regarding natural ways to combat fleas, so I combined a few together and decided to share  my concoction with you.  There are three steps and two recipes to end the flea invasion.  I have tried these today and so far I have seen some great results.

Green Living Ideas - Home

For those who don't know, green living is so much more than gardening, eating healthy and recycling.  Green living is integrating it completely into one's life.  Using solar panels and natural lightening, grey water, green roofs, natural pools, repurposing furniture, maximizing space and trying not to create any waste are just a few ways to start green living.
Here is a wonderful video of an a personal dream home of mine I LOVE THIS HOUSE!!  Most people may recognize it from the T.V. show Californication.

I found this amazing article in a Natural Health magazine and it really does work.  I used to love to work out.  Now, not so much! In my efforts to become healthy I found that doing these easy yoga positions really does wake me up.  They take about five minutes to complete and I am left wanting to exercise.  The want for exercise would not have appeared without these quick and easy moves.

Unique Stylish Table Or Island!

Here is one of my favourite ideas of what to do with wooden pallets.  This would be perfect for a home or cottage.  Using that wonderful dark grey really cleaned up the wood and made it look much more expensive and clean cut.

Welcome!

My name is Lindsay and I am 29 years old.  The more technology grows the more aware an individual is of what is going around them.  Today everything has changed since I was a child.  The weather, food manufacturing, companies like Monsanto ruining the environment, eco-systems and food supplies, the lack of concern that we as a majority seem to take and not give it a second thought.  Lately I have been very interested in green living in general.  Re-using materials, gardening, recycling, eating healthy and even exercising are all things I want or need in my life.

Growing up I was an extremely active child.  I was in gymnastics, I was a competitive swimmer and I even took dance (tap, jazz and ballet) for almost ten years.  Along the way the activities stopped and life began.  I used to exercise everyday and up until last week I had stopped exercising all together.  The most difficult task I am facing is eating healthy.  I love food! I love meat, cheese, pasta and milk.  For the last year or so I have been acutely aware of the disgusting standards of food today.  The problem is that organic food is expensive, I mean really expensive, at least here in Montreal Quebec.  This is why I have put off giving up many of the things I love so much.

I have decided to write down my experiences going through eating healthy and changing my life style.  Unfortunately for me almost all the meat is going to be counted out except any organic/grass fed- non medicated meat.  It is going to be very expensive or force me to take the next step of becoming a vegetarian or adopting seafood.

I am very picky and have never liked seafood or even many vegetables which is surprising as I am from Nova Scotia (some of the best seafood in the world).  I am planning on trying everything again to see if I really don't like it, or was I just being difficult as a child.

This blog is going to be a place where I share recipes, decorating/ re-purposing ideas, gardening tips and exercise ideas.  It is going to be a very long and difficult journey to re-arrange my entire life.  Yet I am up for the challenge.  I promise that the recipes will be delicious, as in order to get me to stop eating meat and byproducts it would have to be amazing.  I will be sharing decorating ideas that are fresh, new and helping the environment.  Exercise routines can become boring and ineffective so I will try to post a new weekly workout challenge.  Overall I just want to share how easy or difficult it will really be.  I hope to hear from you and encourage recipe and idea sharing!
